I’d say this is a good machine for playing games. It might be excessive if you don’t play games or do heavy computations.
Personally, I wouldn’t build this kind of machine for my dad because he wouldn’t need such a powerful machine.
CPU: Ryzen 7 has 8 cores. I think you can save some money and get a 6 core processor instead, like a Ryzen 5 1600 or a 1500.
Motherboard: The motherboard is good.
RAM: Make sure you get them packaged in pairs (dual channel kits). 8 GB should cost around $85 for 2 sticks, not $170.
Graphics Card: The card looks good. It’s good for photo editing and video games.
Hard Drive: I’d spend less money on the CPU and buy a 256 GB SSD, in addition to a mechanical hard drive. You will feel more of a performance gain if you install Windows on an SSD compared to spending more money on anything else. Look for Samsung, Corsair, or Intel SSDs.
Optical Drive: If you really need one, take it from an old computer. Don’t buy a new DVD drive.
Power Supply: Expect to spend ~$50-$100 on one, between 350W and 750W. Any wattage rating is okay, since the machine won’t consume much power. Don’t buy the cheap brands, which can fail and damage your machine. Buy ones with many reviews online.
In fact, My PC still working well, but just want to change this 5 years old system.
