I’ve only bought SSDs manufactured by Samsung, Crucial or Western Digital before. The Temu brands are unknown to me. I’ve only read English-language reviews before, so I don’t know about the Chinese brands.
I think when purchasing a drive, it’s important to research its quality and reliability, because total failure means that it can lose your data. When doing research, you’d want to know if the brand has real customers who have used their drives for years.
I looked through the listings on Temu. If you click on the listings and select 1 TB capacity, the average price is about $70-100 for a 1 TB drive. The unbelievable low prices on the search page are actually for lower capacity drives.
On Newegg, the cheapest 1 TB drive I could find within three reputable brands starts at $90. I think the cheapest Newegg listing is slightly more expensive than the cheapest Temu drive, and the average price is the same.
I would personally pick from the Newegg list, but if I were to pick from Temu, I would read about the brands on the site and see if they are highly regarded on a hardware review site. If they are unknown on either Google or Baidu, I would think it’s suspicious and not worth considering.
Thanks Sam for the reply. The Carpenter called in experts.
At Temu, the actual hard drive over 1TB is actually out of stock. None of the three professional hard drive companies you mentioned have any. Later, I also asked ChatGPT. For data security, he also did not suggest that I buy unfamiliar hard disks. I might pick from Newegg or Bestbuy. I just want to see if you have any experience buying hard disks from China. Thank you for your advice.
I found WD hard disk on Taobao also sell, the price is cheap, but I do not know how much freight. This is the link:
